The Department of Mathematics of Government Arts and Science College, Palkulam, Kanyakumari came into existence in the year 2012 offering Bachelors programme in Mathematics. The successful academic journey over the years transformed and upgraded the department to a post graduate department in the year 2017. Currently Dr. C. Rajeswari is the Head of the Department. The department now offers both graduate and post-graduate programmes in Mathematics which is rich and varied. The department is dedicated to impart high quality education in Mathematics and provides effective means of opportunities in building mental discipline, logical reasoning and mental rigor. The department also aims at providing opportunities for students to explore areas of Mathematics outside the classroom to enhance inter-student communication and co-curricular activities by means of conducting regular symposiums, conferences, workshops, quiz competitions. These vista od activities are aimed to enable students to express Mathematical ideas, to develop creativity and talent, to build confident and self-esteem so that they are shaped for nation building. There are nine faculty members in the department and they are well specialized in various areas like Algebra, Analysis, Graph Theory and Applied Mathematics etc. Along with the teaching responsibilities the faculty members are actively involved in mentoring the students.
